Seckou Keita is a Senegalese kora player, singer, percussionist, composer, and producer, internationally acclaimed for his musical virtuosity and creativity. Known as “the Hendrix of the Kora”, he has redefined the 21-string African harp, collaborating with artists across jazz, classical, and folk music scenes.

Seckou has performed at major festivals like WOMAD, Glastonbury, and the Tokyo Jazz Festival, and has released multiple award-winning albums. In 2023, he premiered African Rhapsodies, a landmark orchestral piece for kora and symphony orchestra.

His music transcends genres and borders — it’s music for the soul.

Seckou Keita to senegalski muzyk, śpiewak, perkusjonista, kompozytor i producent, uznany na całym świecie za mistrzostwo gry na korze oraz niezwykłą kreatywność.

Nazywany „Hendriksem kory”, Seckou od lat przekracza granice gatunków muzycznych, współpracując z artystami jazzowymi, klasycznymi i folkowymi. Występował na najważniejszych festiwalach świata – m.in. WOMAD, Glastonbury i Tokyo Jazz.

W 2023 roku zaprezentował wyjątkowe dzieło African Rhapsodies, napisane na korę i orkiestrę symfoniczną. Jego muzyka porusza, inspiruje i łączy – to muzyka prosto z duszy.

🇬🇧 This is much more than just a world music event. It is a doorway to a distant culture and the crossroads of world traditions merging in Kraków. It is a community of artists and music-lovers in Kraków.

Spearheaded by Senegalese multi-instrumentalist, Ablaye Badji and supported by Kraków Music, POD BAOBABEM is the result of a city and its people opening up to the world and sharing the common joy that music brings to every human being.

🇵🇱 Ten festiwal to coś więcej niż tylko wydarzenie muzyki światowej. To brama do odległej kultury i skrzyżowanie światowych tradycji łączących się w Krakowie. To krakowska społeczność artystów i melomanów.

Prowadzony przez senegalskiego multiinstrumentalistę Ablaye Badji i wspierany przez Kraków Music, POD BAOBABEM jest efektem otwarcia się miasta i jego mieszkańców na świat i dzielenia się wspólną radością, jaką muzyka niesie każdemu człowiekowi.

In many West African cultures, the Baobab Tree is more than just a tree. It’s a place of gathering, a keeper of stories, a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and community.

Often called the “Tree of Life,” the baobab offers shelter, nourishment, and medicine. It’s where elders meet to share knowledge, where music is played, where justice is spoken.

It represents roots and connection — to the land, to heritage, to each other.

This is the spirit we want to evoke during the Pod Baobabem Festival: a space of togetherness, cultural richness, and shared rhythms.

W wielu kulturach Afryki Zachodniej drzewo baobabu to coś więcej niż tylko drzewo. To miejsce spotkań, strażnik opowieści, symbol odporności, mądrości i wspólnoty.

Często nazywany „Drzewem Życia,” baobab daje schronienie, pożywienie i lekarstwo. To pod nim zbierają się starszyzny, gra się muzykę, przekazuje tradycje i rozwiązuje spory. Reprezentuje korzenie i połączenie — z ziemią, dziedzictwem, drugim człowiekiem.

Właśnie takiego ducha chcemy przywołać podczas Festiwalu POD BAOBABEM KRAKÓW: przestrzeni wspólnoty, kulturowego bogactwa i rytmów, które łączą.

Join and explore Senegalese culture for two weeks filled with beautiful music, rhythm, dance, delicious traditional Senegalese food and amazing company!

In this trip we’ll be learning traditional rhythms and dances of West Africa, which we will do daily for 5 days a week, with 2 rest days.
